THIS GROUP IS 20+.
sorry to any youngins out there, but this rule exists purely for the comfort and safety of younger folks online; if you are a teenager, you may NOT apply to this group, visit the discord server, or ask for an exception. i ask that all guests, applicants, and members please confirm they are over 20+ but do not share private info such as their age or birthdate in the public server.
all group content should NEVER surpass an 18+ rating. story and events may contain violence, blood, crude humor, use of profanity, mature/dark themes, or strong language. NO mature or triggering content may be submitted to the server, group gallery, or art gallery at any time. no inappropriate/NSFW art, videos, links, memes, tweets, etc. may be posted in the group’s official public spaces.
all characters submitted as playable MUST be 18+. a minimal amount of art/development content of non-18 NPCs is permissible, but this must be kept to an absolute minimum. you may not, at any time, specifically use any NPC <18 for group-related content.
GOOD ETIQUETTE IS REQUIRED.
a bit self explanatory! all the normal rules and measures apply here: please respect your rp partners’ boundaries and don’t do things that aren’t cool or considerate. no godmodding, metagaming, powerplaying, and all those other compound words that mean ‘bad rp etiquette’ please!
we’re all just here to have fun and have a good time. if you have an issue with someone in the group or any conflicts, please keep it to yourself. please do not DM me or anyone assisting me about personal issues you may have with an applicant or another member. please do not contact the mods about someone else’s behavior or history in general unless it breaks one of the group rules. please be aware this is not a 24/7/365 operation. i and my mods reserve the right not to tend to group-related “work” during late night hours, busy times, holidays, or anytime when other priorities call.
be respectful to everybody else. do not discuss sensitive, controversial, or triggering topics in the server; we are all here for a good and relaxed time. irl politics, current events, and other such issues can be upsetting for some, so please simply steer clear. be aware that the group spaces are PUBLIC. please conduct yourself accordingly and keep in mind that this is not the same atmosphere as a friends-only server.
RULEBREAKERS WILL BE BANNED.
in most cases, a rule violation will incur one strike. SOMETIMES, however, we will move to immediate ban if we deem fit. art/media theft, gross misconduct, fighting, etc. will incur immediate bans. if you incur another rule violation after one strike, you will be banned. we also reserve the right to immediately ban under ANY circumstances we deem fit.

What kind of group is this?
this group is Book of Magic (BoM). it is the second roleplay group i have ever created, and its focus is narrowed down to an almost-all-fantasy world setting that will feature mainly a smorgasbord of high fantasy. each playable race is specifically crafted to offer an in-universe, one-size-fits-all way to create pretty much whatever kind of character you could conjure up for a fantasy-or-isekai genre.
the most important takeaway about this group is that it is intended to be a high-fantasy pastiche. Its ultimate goal is to maintain versatility and freedom of creativity: if you have a ‘fantasy’ oc you like or want to make, Book of Magic will do its best to accommodate whatever that entails!
this group will encompass a large variety of different fantasy ideas, tropes, and themes; expect something a little bit eclectic.
What should I expect from this group?
lots of high fantasy, low on references to modern-day Earth. this setting will focus almost wholly on Alterra; Earth exists just as a possible background for some types of playable characters. of course, you’re welcome to interpret the lore of Alterra as creatively as young like - your character can be designed as wearing a large variety of different clothes and speak however you like them to, although please try not to have your character throwing out “pog” left and right if they have never in their lives heard of memes
also: expect an unprofessional modding experience! im just as much here to chill and play as everybody else and i see little reason to insist too strongly on authority and cordiality over everyone. at the same time, be aware i’m just here in my free time and not keen on running this place like a CEO
Who runs this group?
the person writing this guide: me. (lol) bennabun! everything you are seeing here has been designed and created by me! i am helped to run the group by local angel moderator goldy (golden-atelier)!
What are the requirements for joining?
mostly, the usual - make a character, apply, get accepted, play. i will say you’ll probably have more fun if you actually participate in group events and, like, talk to people - but in Book of Magic you won’t really need to if you don’t feel like doing that. i will say outright: i don’t like activity checks and i probably won’t be having any (no promises, but i’m like 95% set on this measure)
player rank-ups are based on length of membership - you’ll gain privileges whether or not you can participate in events. the bar for event participation is literally on the floor though so don’t worry
character level-ups are based on event participation - the more events that character is in, the stronger they’ll get. for now, it takes about 5 events to max out a character’s level, note this is preliminary and still under tinkering

What are the requirements for membership?
be willing to genuinely get along with, collaborate with, and interact with all the other members in the group. one major goal of Book of Magic is to create a community where you will hopefully feel encouraged to participate and share in each others’ creations! if you prefer to only hang out with your own friends/don’t want to try getting to know anyone new right now/join groups but don’t enjoy events, this may not be the group for you, so please consider it carefully!

99% of the time, i’d like if you could please use the #tutorial channel in the group discord server. If you don’t want to speak publicly, you can DM me at bennabun#0321 but i ask that you please reserve actually DMing me for genuinely private matters (ie. discomfort with certain server conduct, notices about private matters, special needs, etc.) - if it’s about character creation, lore, group rules, or anything else, PLEASE use the #tutorial channel. that’s what it’s there for!
if you want to speak privately, you can also go to the #ticket channel and open a private chat channel with the mods for help!

yes of course! however, if you’ve never applied/joined a group before, please don’t ask me to explain/guide you how to do things. ask in chat and maybe someone else can help!

different types of currencies will be offered on an event-by-event basis. if you want to use it, you MUST calculate and track it yourself!!!
This world lore seems familiar.
a good chunk of Book of Magic’s lore will draw on original lore i created for another group i made, called Saint Spell. they’re different enough that you should consider them separate universes, though
